Acqualia was founded by Zac Cohan and Nik Youdale in beautiful Sydney, Australia.

Since 2004 we have been creating great apps for our digital lives.

We love our apps, and hope you enjoy using them as much as we have enjoyed creating them.

A Little History

Zac and Nik met and began their friendship at Glenaeon Rudolf Steiner School, in Sydney. Inspired by the indie developer's dream of creating a killer app, Zac and Nik began learning to write software in their 11th year of high school.

Acqualia came into being when World of Where was released in September, 2004, a great way to learn the countries and cities of the world. At the start of 2005 the pair had a brainwave for a new way to do math on computers, and Soulver was released in May of that year.

In 2006 the pair entered university and were the recipients of AUC WWDC scholarships, allowing them to attend Apple's developer conference in San Francisco.

In April 2007 Acqualia released it's third application, Picturesque. The vision was to make a simple app that would beautify images for the web with tasteful effects like reflections and curves. Picturesque was the featured application on and later that year it won an Apple Design Award for best student application.

The award gave Zac and Nik the chance to exhibit at Macworld 2008, and later that year they were offered internships as software engineers at Apple. From December 2008-February 2009 Zac and Nik lived in Cupertino, California, contributing to the iWork & iPhone Media Group teams respectively.

From March to April 2009, Zac and Nik travelled around Australia and New Zealand delivering the first workshops in the region on creating apps for iPhone.

Soulver and Picturesque for Mac have both matured past version 2.0, and Soulver now also runs on the iPhone and the iPad.

Today and beyond

Zac and Nik continue to create the apps that they want to use themselves. They are passionate about beautiful and innovative apps, and believe that if they create apps that meet their own standards, you will love them too.
